Wally's Space Odyssey
[[A Whale in Space]]Wally the Whale loved the ocean.
He got to see it all.
[[From the colorful coral reefs]]
[[to the chaotic top with the waves crashing]]
[[to the deep, dark bottom, where the light never reached.]] (text-colour:black)+(background:white)[]In the coral reefs, he had a great friend
[[Claude the Crab]].At the bottom, he had a great friend,
[[Sophia the Squid]]"I love coming down to the bottom of the ocean!" Wally the Whale said to Sophia the Squid. "I wish I could glow in the dark so that all my friends knew I was coming!"
"It is pretty cool down here," Sophia the Squid said. "I have so many different types of sea friends here at the bottom! The only problem, is that we all get quite cold..."
"What do you mean you get [[cold]]?" Wally the Whale asked."Since its so dark, we never get to see or feel that thing you all above refer to as the sun," Sophia the Squid said
Wally the Whale thought for a moment.
He'd never realized how his friends at the bottom might be affected by never seeing the sun.
[[He had to do something to help his friend.]]Was there some way that, he could maybe
just maybe,
bring a piece of the sun down to the bottom of the ocean?
[[...]]Before he knew it, Wally the Whale was swimming with all his might up towards the top.
He went [[up]][[and up..]][[and up...]][[and up...]]
until he broke the [[surface]]Somehow,
just somehow,
he had gained enough momentum to keep traveling towards the [[sky]]. He saw the ocean below him and the massive blue sky above him.
He also saw the sun.
It was so bright that he could barely even open his eyes, but at least he knew where he was [[going]]. After a while, Wally the Whale noticed that the sky started to turn a lot darker. It went from a clear blue to an endless black freckled with what Wally could only assume was other suns.
He could still see the one he was aiming for though, and it was brighter (and warmer) than before.
[[....]]As he got closer and closer to the sun, he noticed a smaller, freely moving orb traveling around the sun.
Maybe this was a little piece that broke off.
Maybe he could just stick this piece in his pocket and swim right back down and give it to Sophia the Squid.
He swam towards the [[orb]].As he approached, the orb, once idling nonchalantly around the sun, stopped in its tracks.
Wally the Whale continued towards it, but then he heard a [[voice]]."How did you get here?"
He heard a voice, and it was coming from the orb.
"Um.. [[hello?]]" Wally the Whale said cautiously. He finally got close enough so that the orb became less orb-like.
He saw that it was a small fairy.
She had bright orange hair with blue flame tips at the end.
He could feel her heat, which seemed almost as powerful as the sun's.
"Who are you?" the fairy [[repeated]]. "Um. I'm Wally the Whale. I'm a whale from the oceans of that blue planet over there," Wally said as he pointed with his fin to the planet from where he came from.
"Earth," the fairy said.
"Oh. Earth." Wally repeated.
There was a moment of silence.
"Um.. [[Who are you?]]" Wally the Whale asked back. "I am Solana. I am a Sun Fairy. My sisters and I watch over and protect all of the Suns in the galaxy. This one is [[mine]]."Wally the Whale perked up.
Solana the Sun Fairy seemed nice enough, and he thought maybe he could convince her to give him a small piece of the sun to take back to Earth, and also perhaps gain another friend- [[a space fairy friend!]]"Well its very nice to meet you Solana the Sun Fairy! I have travelled from Earth, as you say, to try and get a piece of the Sun to take back with me!" Wally the Whale said in his friendliest and most personable whale voice.
"Why on Earth would a whale need a piece of the sun??" Solana the Sun Fairy asked?
"Well, we're not on Earth actually.." Wally the Whale shot back, but then decided to move on from his poorly timed joke in an effort to not make himself look like a whale of a fool.
"Kidding... I actually need a piece of the sun because our oceans run very deep and are filled with millions of sea creatures. Those that live at the bottom never get to see the sun. My friend told me that she gets quite cold down there, so I wanted to bring her a piece of the sun back as a gift."
[[Solana the Sun Fairy looked at Wally the Whale.]]"They never get to see my Sun?" Solana the Sun Fairy asked, almost looking upset.
"Never, ever, ever," Wally the Whale said.
"That makes me so sad," Solana the Sun Fairy said after a moment. "I love my Sun. She's bright, and warm, and she makes me smile everyday."
"Me too, that's why I swam right up to space to see if I could help my friend."
"Everyone should be able to feel my Sun's rays, so perhaps I can help you," Solana the Sun Fairy said.
Wally the Whale perked up, he had done it! He was on his way to bringing Sophia the Squid the best gift ever!
...
Only before Solana the Sun Fairy said,
[["But I can't just give you a piece of my precious Sun."]]"I need you to answer a riddle for me, and then, only if you get it correct will I give you a small piece of my Sun to bring back to your friend."
Wally the Whale thought for a moment.
He went to Whale College, but didn't do the best. He spent more time partying at the Plankton Pub than he ever did in class.
But those days were behind him. He was a much more mature whale now.
He was a whale on a mission.
[["Bring it on."]][["Ok. If you say so,"]] Solana the Sun Fairy said. "With jaws of death and a trail of black, I am every ship's last attack. Brother of the Kraken, I travel the sea. When a whirlpool forms, you'll know it was me. What am I"
Wally the Whale thought long and hard.
He was pretty sure he knew the answer, but he had a few ideas in mind.
[["The Loch Ness Monster"]]
[["A giant squid"]]
[["The Kraken"]]"Nope! I've never even heard of that thing...try again!"
Hm. Ok. Maybe Wally the Whale has been listening to too many conspiracy theory whale-podcasts.
[["Ok. If you say so,"]] "Wow! That's correct!" Solana the Sun Fairy looked absolutely shocked. "How did you know that??"
"My great friend, Sophia the Squid!" Wally the Whale said. "We've been friends for so long and she fit your description perfectly!"
"Wow! How lucky for you and what cool friends you have! I've always wanted to have a squid friend!" Solana the Sun Fairy said.
"Sophia the Squid is actually who I am bringing the Sun back for!" Wally the Whale said.
[["Well I guess I have no choice but to send you back with a piece of my precious Sun!"]]"Did you even listen to the riddle??" Solana the Sun Fairy said. "Its a brother TO the Kraken. Try again!"
Wow. Ok. Maybe Wally the Whale should've paid more attention in Whale College...
[["Ok. If you say so,"]] Wally the Whale said. Solana the Sun Fairy suddenly turned into a small orb again, and she disappeared into her huge [[Sun]].
She returned moments later, with a small pouch in her hand.
"Here, take this to your friends at the bottom of the ocean. It will bring them light and keep them warm."
She handed the pouch to Wally the Whale, and even though it was a small pouch, he could feel great heat coming from it as he held it in his fin.
"Thank you so very much! I don't know how I could ever return this favor," Wally the Whale said.
"Not necessary. I am just happy that more creatures will be able to feel the warmth from my precious Sun," Solana the Sun Fairy said.
[[.....]]Wally the Whale and Solana the Sun Fairy said their goodbyes, and even had plans to meet up again- maybe in the summertime on Earth so Solana the Sun Fairy could experience her Sun from Earth.
Wally the Whale swam back down to Earth, the pouch full of sunshine beaming in his pocket.
As he broke the Earth's barrier, and the sky turned to blue again, he saw his beloved ocean.
He dove into it, and kept heading down to the [[bottom]].He arrived and it was as dark and as cold as ever, but he had the solution in his pocket.
He found Sophia the Squid swimming around, and he excitedly went over to her.
"Where did you go??" Sophia the Squid asked when she noticed him. "You just disappeared!
[["Well you see..."]]Wally the Whale explained his whole adventure to Sophia the Squid.
She was shocked, and didn't know what to think.
[["And here's this!"]] Wally the Whale said as he pulled the pouch out of his pocket and opened it.The whole area around them lit up and some of the contents of the pouch dispersed in the sea.
The water became noticably warmer, and Wally the Whale could see how happy Sophia the Squid was.
"This is amazing! The stuff in this pouch is almost like magic!" Sophia the Squid said.
"It's sunlight. Its bright and warm, and it comes from a Sun in space." Wally the Whale explained
"Its perfect. Now we never have to worry about getting too cold down here! Thank you so much, [[you're one of my greatest friends ]]." Wally the Whale and his friends (both from the ocean and space) all lived happy lives together, thanks to kindness, generosity and a little bit of adventure.
THE END"I love the coral reefs! They are so colorful and full of so many different types of sea creatures!" Wally the Whale said.
"It is pretty nice living in the coral reefs, and its a great place to gather things to add to my collections," Claude the Crab said, an avid collector, with his biggest collection being his prestigious rock collection.
"Oh totally! Also, dude, your rock collection is reallllly coming together!" Wally the Whale said.
"Oh, well thanks!" Claude the Crab said, a bit bashfully.
Claude the Crab was silent for a moment.
[["What's up?"]] Wally the Whale asked. (text-colour:black)+(background:white)[]"Well I was reading an article in //Rock Collector's Digest// the other day, and it was about one of the most rare and prestigious rocks... moon rocks," Claude the Crab said.
Claude the Crab went on and on about how barely anyone on Earth has these rocks in their collection, and certainly no undersea rock collectors have gotten their hands (or fins) on one of these moon rocks.
"If I had one of these moon rocks in my collection, I'd have the [[BEST]] rock collection of anyone in the ocean!" Claude the Crab said. The best rock collection in the entire ocean?
And Wally the Whale would know the crab that has the best rock collection in the entire ocean??
[[Wally the Whale just had to make this happen for Claude the Crab.]](text-colour:black)+(background:white)[]Before he knew it, Wally the Whale was swimming out of the coral reefs and towards the top of the ocean.
He was headed to the [[moon]]. He swam up until he broke the surface, and somehow he had gained enough momentum to keep moving up [[through the sky]].[[He went up...]][[...and up]][[...and up]]
Until he saw [[the moon]].He swam to the moon through space.
The moon looked so peaceful, silently orbiting around his home planet.
He approached the moon, but as he got closer he noticed [[an orb]] travelling around it. Wally the Whale was studying the orb when suddenly he heard a voice
[["Who are you?"]] said the voice, seemingly coming from the orb. Wally the Whale stopped in his tracks.
He didn't know what to say, so he just said, [["Um. I'm Wally. Wally the Whale."]]"A whale... how odd... a whale on the moon?" the voice said.
Suddenly the orb came near him, and he could see more clearly.
It was a fairy.
She had bright white hair, that seemed to glow in the black space around her.
"Who are [[you?]]" Wally the Whale asked back. "I am Leda. I am a Lunar Fairy. My sisters and I protect all of the Moons in the galaxies. [[This one is mine.]]" Leda the Lunar Fairy said. Wally the Whale perked up.
Leda the Lunar Fairy seemed nice enough, and he thought maybe he could convince her to give him a small moon rock to take back to Claude the Crab, and maybe even make another friend [[-a space fairy friend!]]"Well, Leda the Lunar Fairy, it is quite nice to meet you!" Wally the Whale said in his nicest and most personable whale voice. "I have traveled from that blue planet on search of a moon rock to bring back."
"What would a whale need a moon rock for??" Leda the Lunar Fairy questioned.
"My great friend is an avid rock collector. He has the biggest collection I've ever seen! He is looking for a moon rock to add so that he can have the BEST rock collection of any creature under the sea," Wally the Whale explained.
[[Leda the Lunar Fairy looked at Wally the Whale.]]"A rock collection you say..." Leda the Lunar Fairy said. "I actually helped with an article not too long ago for //Rock Collector's Digest// about moon rocks..."
"That's where my friend learned about them!" Wally the Whale said excitedly, cutting her off.
"My article got read all the way in the ocean??" Leda the Lunar Fairy asked, a shocked expression on her face.
"Yes! My friend loves your work! He wouldn't shut up about moon rocks!!" Wally the Whale said.
[[Leda the Lunar Fairy paused for a moment.]]"Perhaps I could help your friend out, I mean, in the pursuit of science you know, and gift you with a moon rock", Leda the Lunar Fairy finally said.
Wally the Whale couldn't believe his ears!
He was going to get a moon rock for Claude the Crab and he was going to have the BEST rock collection in the entire ocean!
[["But I don't think I can just give it to you..."]]"I need you to answer a riddle, and then, only if you get it correct, will I give you a moon rock to give to your friend," Leda the Lunar Fairy said.
Wally thought for a moment.
He went to Whale College, but didn't do the best. He spent more time looking around for a cute whale girls than he ever did in class.
But those days were behind him. He was a much more mature whale now.
A whale with a mission.
[["Hit me,"]] he said. [["If you say so,"]] Leda the Lunar Fairy said. "I am hard as well as soft. I love water. I am a part of the zodiac. I am ill-tempered. What am I?" Leda the Lunar Fair asked.
Wally the Whale thought long and hard.
He was pretty sure he knew the answer, but he had a few ideas in mind.
[["Aquarius"]]
[["A crab"]]
[["A human"]]"A fair guess, but not what I am looking for. Try again!" Leda the Lunar Fairy said.
Hm. Maybe Wally the Whale needed to check his horoscope a bit more often.
[["If you say so,"]] Wally the Whale said."Wow! Thats correct! How did you know that??" Leda the Lunar Fairy asked, a shocked look on her face.
"My great friend, Claude the Crab!" Wally the Whale said. "We've been friends for so long and your description fit him perfectly."
"Wow! How lucky for you and what cool friends you have! I've always wanted to have a crab friend!" Leda the Lunar Fairy said.
"Claude the Crab is actually my friend with the rock collection! He is who I am gifting the moon rock to!" Wally the Whale said.
[["Well, I guess I have no choice but to send you back with a precious piece of moon rock!"]]
"Terrible creatures, and not the answer. I can't even begin to tell you how upset I was when they started visiting MY MOON!! Try again!" Leda the Lunar Fairy said.
Oops. Guess he shouldn't have gone there, who knew how much she hated humans?
[["If you say so,"]] Wally the Whale said.Leda the Lunar Fairy returned to her orb state and disappeared somewhere on [[her Moon]]. She returned moments later, carrying a small pouch.
"I gathered some of my finest moon rocks. I've brought one back for your crab friend, and I've also gifted one for you. Do with it what you will," Leda the Lunar Fairy said.
"Wow! Thank you so very much! Claude the Crab is going to be so excited to add this to his [[BEST ROCK COLLECTION UNDER THE OCEAN!]]" Wally the Whale and Leda the Lunar Fairy said their goodbyes, and even had plans to meet up again. She was going to come visit his planet- she wanted to talk with Claude the Crab about his rock collection and see her Moon from their sky.
Wally the Whale swam back down to Earth, pouch full of moon rocks in his pocket.
As he broke the Earth's barrier and the sky turned to blue again, he saw his beloved ocean.
He dove into it and headed to [[the coral reefs]]. He arrived, and it was bright and busy as usual.
He went on the search for his friend, and soon found Claude the Crab sifting through some pebbles, probably looking for more cool rocks or other treasures to add to his collections.
Wally the Whale swam up to Claude the Crab.
"Hey! Where did you go?? You just disappeared!" Claude the Crab said.
[["So here's what happened..."]]Wally the Whale explained his whole adventure to Claude the Crab.
Claude the Crab was so shocked, and didn't really know what to think.
"And this is for you!" Wally the Whale said, pulling the pouch out of his pocket and handing it to Claude the Crab.
Claude the Crab opened it up and pulled out the rocks. [[They glistened beautifully in the blue ocean.]] "I can't believe you did all this for me!" Claude the Crab said.
"I just wanted you to have the BEST rock collection in all the ocean! The Lunar Fairy even gave me a rock for myself!" Wally the Whale said.
"That's so cool, I can't wait to add a moon rock to my collection! Thanks so very much, [[you're one of my greatest friends ]]!At the top, he had a great friend,
[[Poppy the Pelican]]. "Its so cool up here at the top of the ocean! Its always so exciting getting to see the creatures that live above and below the ocean all together," Wally the Whale said.
"It is pretty cool up here, there's always something happening," Poppy the Pelican said.
"Its so cool that you can just fly anywhere you want to. I wish I could fly," Wally the Whale said.
"I do enjoy flying, but it makes me SO tired. I wish I weighed less so I could fly around the sky even more," Poppy the Pelican said.
Poppy the Pelican was a lot bigger than the other birds he saw flying around at the top of the ocean. Wally the Whale definitely knew what it was like to be the biggest creature of those around him.
Wally the Whale thought. This reminded him of something he'd learned a long time ago- something all the way back to Whale Kindergarten.
[[......]]He remebered learning about something called gravity. It was the thing that kept all his friends in the ocean and all the other creatures attatched to the Earth.
What if he could somehow,
just somehow,
[[figure out how to make gravity not affect his friend (or at least affect them less).]]
Wally the Whale remembered learning that gravity doesn't exist in space, that thing that is beyond the sky.
Before he knew it, Wally the Whale was breaking through the barrier between the ocean and the sky.
He was soaring up towards space.
[[Turns out Wally the Whale could fly afterall.]][[He went up....]][[...and up...]][[...and up...]]
Finally arriving in space.
[[He had no idea what he was looking for.]]He traversed through the blackness.
He saw the planet he had come from. It was mostly blue with some green spots. It was beautiful, and looked so peaceful from so far away.
[[He began noticing other planets too.]][[A small red one, that looked like it was covered with the same sand stuff thats on the bottom of the oceans.]][[A HUGE orange one, with so many moons orbiting around it that Wally the Whale didn't even begin to try and count them. ]][[And a few smaller blue ones, that seemed so quiet and mysterious]]As he approached one of the smallest ones, [[he noticed an orb]] dancing around it. This piqued his interest, and he decided to head towards this [[small planet.]]As he got closer, the orb seemed to stopped moving.
He continued towards it, when suddenly he heard [[a voice]]."Who are you? How did you get here?" the voice said.
Wally the Whale was nervous, but he took a gulp and responded back.
[["I'm Wally. Wally the Whale."]]"What is a whale doing all the way out here in the galaxy? Shouldn't you be in the oceans of Earth?" the voice said back.
The orb came even closer to him, and it became clear this was not just an orb he was communicating with, but a fairy.
She had dark purple hair that seemed to have a life of its own, surrounding her entire form as she floated in space.
"I'm here on research, I suppose. I'm trying to help a friend learn the secrets of gravity. That's why I've come to space, to see if I can figure out how to control gravity back on Earth," Wally the Whale said.
"Hm, quite interesting," the fairy said, in a hushed tone.
[[-]]After a long pause she finally said, "Well isn't it lucky you found me."
"What do you mean?" Wally the Whale asked.
"Well you see" the fairy said, "My name is Gaia. I am a gravity fairy. My sisters and I work hard to keep gravity alligned in the galaxies, so that the planets remain orbiting their Sun. This is [[my galaxy]]. What would you like to know about gravity?"Wally the Whale perked up.
He had stumbled right upon the answer to his problem!
Surely Gaia the Gravity Fairy could help him and find a solution to Poppy the Pelican's problem, and maybe he could even make a new friend[[ -a space fairy friend!]]"Well, its very nice to meet you Gaia the Gravity Fairy. You see, my friend can fly, but he gets quite tired, and it makes things hard for him. I came to space to see if I could figure out a way to make gravity affect him less, so he could fly easier," Wally the Whale said.
Gaia the Gravity Fairy thought for a moment, then reached in her hair and pulled out a small vial.
[["Perhaps an anti-gravity potion?"]]Wally the Whale couldn't believe his eyes! This is exactly what Poppy the Pelican needed!
"Lucky for you, I have quite a few of these, and their effects last for a while, so I'd be willing to give this one to you for your friend," Gaia the Gravity Fairy said.
"But I don't think I can just //give// you my potion. You'll have to solve a riddle first. If you get it correct, I'll give you my potion."
[[.......]]Wally the Whale thought for a moment.
He had gone to Whale College, but he didn't do the best. He spent more time smoking different strains of kelp than he ever did in class.
But those days were behind him. He was a much more mature whale now.
A whale with a mission.
[[Let's go,]] Wally the Whale said. "What is a type of can that never requires a can opener?" Gaia the Gravity Fairy asked.
Wally the Whale thought long and hard.
He was pretty sure he knew the answer, but he had a few ideas in mind.
[["Soda can"]]
[["A can that's already been opened"]]
[["A pelican"]]"Incorrect. Plus those have way too much sugar... try again!" Gaia the Gravity Fairy said, running her hands through her hair.
She's not wrong about that. Wally the Whale would try harder.
"[[Alright]]," Wally the Whale said. "Don't look for loopholes... try again!" Gaia the Gravity Fairy said, rolling her eyes.
Guess Wally the Whale is gonna have to think a little harder...
"[[Alright]]," Wally the Whale said."Wow! That's it! You're more clever than I gave you credit for!" Gaia the Gravity Fairy said.
"My friend, Poppy the Pelican, is one of my great friends, so I just thought of him!" Wally the Whale said.
"Wow! How lucky for you and what cool friends you have! I have always wanted a pelican friend," Gaia the Gravity Fairy said.
"Poppy the Pelican is actually the friend that I'm bringing the anti-gravity potion back to!" Wally the Whale said.
[["Well I guess I have no choice but to gift you my potion to give to your pelican friend," Gaia the Gravity Fairy said. ]]"[[Alright]], if you say so," Gaia the Gravity Fairy said with a smirk on her face. Gaia the Gravity Fairy extended her arm and dropped the potion right into Wally the Whale's fin.
"Take this and your friend will never have to worry about the gravity holding him down again," she said. "And you obviously have no issues roaming the skies on your own."
"Thank you so very much," Wally the Whale said. "My friend will be so appreciative. I am so glad I've learned to fly on this adventure, and hopefully now Poppy the Pelican and I can go flying together!"
[[........]]Wally the Whale and Gaia the Gravity Fairy said their goodbyes, and even had plans to meet up in the future. Them and Poppy the Pelican are going to meet up and go flying sometime. Wally the Whale couldn't wait.
Wally the Whale headed back towards Earth, passing all the planets he saw previously, only this time with a very special vial in his pocket.
He broke the earth's barrier, the sky turned to blue again, and he could see his beloved ocean.
He crashed into the waves; the water felt so good and like [[home]].
He had to go find Poppy the Pelican and gift him the anti-gravity potion.
He swam for a while, and soon saw Poppy the Pelican, flying just above the water.
"[[POPPY]]" Wally the Whale yelled out. Poppy the Pelican saw Wally the Whale and flew over towards him.
"Dude! Where did you go?? What happened you just disappeared into space!!" Poppy the Pelican exclaimed
[["Literally..."]] Wally the Whale laughed.Wally the Whale explained the whole story to Poppy the Pelican.
While listening, Poppy the Pelican had the most incedulous look on his face. His beak was agape the whole time.
"And I have [[this]] for you!" Wally the Whale pulled the vial out of his pocket. He explained gravity and how the potion would work, and Poppy the Pelican agreed to try it out.
Wally the Whale held out his fin and poured some down Poppy the Pelican's beak.
Slowly, Poppy the Pelican effortlessly started floating up.
"Whoa! [[I think its working!]]Wally the Whale joined Poppy the Pelican in the sky, and they floated around together.
"I'm so glad to be able to fly so effortlessly now, and so glad you can fly with me!" Poppy the Pelican said. "I'm so glad to know you, [[you're one of my greatest friends ]]!
